Juggling

Today’s society tends to elevate multi-tasking and the people who do it all. Some days, I am one of those super-humans, or at least, it may look like that from the outside.

Instagram, Pinterest, and TikTok are full of people creating the illusion that they have it all and do it all. This image tends to get more likes, clicks, or positive attention. And we all like positive attention. It also feels good to be recognized for the good in our lives and to share our good fortunes with others. However, since it’s birth in 1997, social media has raised a generation who do not know any other way. Many people have forgotten the truth to the expression “the grass isn't always greener on the other side”.

While it may look like someone has it all or does it all, there’s likely to be an untold story behind the scenes. For example, while I work, go to school, manage a business, and am part of a family, there are times it comes at a cost. Sometimes, I’m grumpy and irritable because I’m being pulled in too many directions, or I miss out on social get-togethers, or I don’t have the energy to workout (even though I know I should and it’s good for me). Some (okay… most) days I’m a bit sleep deprived. Or, I don’t do everything I know I ought to do like write a post for my blog (note the date on the post before this one)!

So next time, you start having some negative self-talk about not managing everything in your life, remember you are not alone. And it’s okay! Do your best, be kind to yourself, and try to get a good night’s sleep. It really is one of the most important things you can do for your physical and mental health.
